POROUS GRAVEL GRID - BLOCK PAVING FOR BORDERS AND PATHS

We met Mr. and Mrs L. while installing a new driveway in their neighbourhood. Having recently moved to Marple (Stockport, Cheshire) with their young child, Mr. and Mrs. L. were struggling to get the pram and the wheelie bins up the stepped front entrance of their new home. The couple was seeking advice on what was feasible in keeping with the natural aspect of the front garden.

They booked an appointment with our path designer who came for an hour-long free survey and no-obligation quote. The appointment was the opportunity to thoroughly discuss what Mr. and Mrs. L. ideally wanted, and design the path that would allow improved access to the house from the pavement below. The main difficulty was dealing with the steep slope of 25% gradient on a short distance (less than 20 feet), while minimising the impact of the path-to-be on the front garden that Mr. and Mrs. L. wanted to preserve as much as possible.

After looking at different design options together, the decision was made to go with a gently bended path towards the side gate of the house. Taking advantage of the unique feather edge profile of the Couture Paving edging, we knew we would be able to create a pleasing continuous bend to better define spaces without having to cut or joint the charcoal blocks individually. As for the surface for the path, it was without any doubt that Mr. and Mrs. L. opted for our stabilised and reinforced natural gravel solution Hexastar. Not only does Hexastar’s innovative honeycomb-cells structure offers the best grip possible up to 45% gradient for a stable walk (or drive), but its porous geotextile membrane also guarantees natural drainage into the sub-grade making it SuDS* - compliant.

Once Mr. and Mrs. L. visited our showroom in New Mills (High Peak, Derbyshire) and agreed on the contract prepared using our fair price-per-square-metre price list, a date was booked in the diary for the works to take place. From there, everything happened quickly: our own team of path installers did the groundwork and masonry (edgings) in two consecutive days. The Hexastar surface course was laid on the final morning of the three-day build, and Mr. and Mrs L. were able to enjoy their new path that same afternoon.

Here is what they had to say when we left: ‘We are really pleased with the path and the service from you and Jon was excellent. You made a little boy’s week with the digger, he has been talking about it ever since!’

Daniel Moquet Driveway Designer thank them all for the trust they put in us and wish them all the best!
